I am a self taught jewellery maker, mainly using Sterling Silver and various precious or semi-preciuos stones.
Where cabachon stones have been used these will have been cut and polished by myself from rough rock, then a setting made and the stone set.
I work by eye without drawings and only use machines to cut and grind the stones and help with the final polishing.
Items of silver over 7.5 grams are sent away for hallmarking as the law requires. This is a full UK hallmark consisting of my initials, the silver quality mark, the Assay Office stamp and a date stamp. be wary of anyone selling items over 7.5 grams as silver bearing only the numbers "925", that alone is no guarentee of the qaulity, it mus have the proper assay marks to go with it.
I enjoy cutting and setting Opals, but good rough material is getting harder to come by and Opals have seen large price rises in recent years. Opal mining is labourious and expensive, a lot of rock has to be moved to find small amounts of Opal.
Due to the nature of Opal each piece is totally unique.
